HI Barbara - It's interesting to note the differences in TM leveraging between medical device and pharma texts, isn't it? What's even more interesting is that we have seen few pharma companies push for improvements (e.g., with some planning, ICFs could be 80% leveraged). Given efforts to reduce costs and shorten turn-around times, that's kind of puzzling.

I've used mainly Trados since the early 1990s and my personal TM has about 190,000 entries.
I have found that TM is very useful for medical device user manuals because it makes it easy to control terminology and consistency throughout the manual (with due diligence and experience).
With pharmaceutical documentation I find that at most I get 10-20% repetition (section headings,

You are absolutely correct, Thomas.

"Garbage in, garbage out" is easy to understand but difficult to combat. As troubling is the fact that TM content doesn't stay good forever. Just like any database, TMs must be managed and maintained. Otherwise, over time, you get QIGO - "quality in, garbage out".

TM's are useful, but remember, *GIGO* (garbage in, garbage out). In particular, rush jobs should NOT end up in the TM.
