Teenage sex and the translation business

It's not often that two translation industry veterans get together to share ideas and experiences. It was cool that Kirti Vashee and Renato Beninatto decided to do so - and to record their chat for all of us to see.

So, what do you think?

Do you agree that true innovation in the translation space will come from outsiders? That established translation service providers are too worried about cannibalization? And that innovation is like teenage sex?

I felt a bit sorry for Renato, usually a joke about teenage sex would go down a treat but Kirti was not loving it.

I think it was a totally inappropriate comment, and Renato showed his crass side.

After that joke I was hoping the Amsterdam story that followed would be a little more juicy.

I assure you I had no problem with the teenage sex analogy. (I was just getting used to the camera and the bright lights).

You should understand that these chats were completely unscripted, impromptu and spontaneous.

It was a single take conversation stream with no editing as we wanted to get an honest, un-, calculated and authentic take on a subject.

I have blogged about this further at http://kv-emptypages.blogspot.com/2010/08/innovation-in-localization.html

To think of that analogy as a sign of someone's "crass side" is rather a sign of prudery in the eyes of the beholder...
